(NewsNation) — Thursday is National Unclaimed Property Day, created to highlight an issue that affects one in seven Americans, many of whom have unclaimed funds totaling $2,000 or more.
“Go get your money,” financial adviser Tracy Byrnes said during an appearance on “Dan Abrams Live.”
To claim the money, Google “unclaimed property” plus the state you reside in. Ensure that the link that comes up in the browser has “.gov” in the address.
“Follow the steps, and you go find your money,” Brynes said.
Alternatively, you can learn more at ucpday.com and then launch missingmoney.com. MissingMoney.com “is the only website endorsed by states working to reunite you with lost funds,” the website states.
Unclaimed property can range from an insurance benefit, a forgotten bank account or an unused rebate card.
