- Those born on the 1st through the 10th of the month are paid on the second Wednesday of the month
- Those whose birthday falls on the 11th through the 20th get Social Security on the third Wednesday of the month
- People born after the 20th get paid on the fourth Wednesday
Exceptions include children and spouses who receive benefits based on someone else’s work record. They get paid on the same day as the primary beneficiary.
If someone filed for benefits before May 1, 1997; their Medicare premiums are paid for by the state where they live; they receive a Supplemental Security Income payment; or they live in a foreign country, they could also get their payments on the 3rd of each month. People getting SSI payments because of disability, age or blindness should expect to receive them on the 1st.
Payments falling on a federal holiday or weekend will be issued on the weekday immediately before.
