BLUE ISLAND, Ill. — There is a heavy police presence in the South Suburbs on Friday afternoon after a drive-by shooting near a community center.
The shooting unfolded around 3:30 p.m. near the Salvation Army Blue Island Worship & Community Center in the 2900 block of West 127th Street, according to Blue Island city officials.
Police say one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition and two others suffered minor injuries.
Officers say at the time of the shooting, the community center had been rented out for a funeral.
WGN-TV had a helicopter over the scene around 4:25 p.m. when several officers were spotted in the area and police tape and evidence markers could be seen.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing and officers say no arrests have been made.
Due to the incident, 127th is closed between Kedzie and Maple Avenue. It is unclear when the road will reopen.
