DENVER (KDVR) — A former funeral home owner who allegedly had dozens of human remains at his former Denver home has been arrested, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Miles Harford, 33, had a warrant out for his arrest on charges of abuse of a corpse, forgery and theft. Harford was arrested in Englewood at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. He is being held at the Arapahoe County Detention Center.

Harford is expected to appear in court on Friday.

On Feb. 6, Denver police and personnel from the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner were called to a house that Harford was renting in the 2500 block of South Quitman Street.

Investigators said they found several cremated human remains inside of the home.

A woman’s remains were also found in a hearse parked on the street. The woman has been identified as Christina Rosales, 63, who died of natural causes on Aug. 31, 2022.

According to Denver police, after searching the home, the hearse and a U-Haul parked outside the home, investigators believe they have recovered the remains of at least 30 people who died between 2012 and 2021.

Police interviewed a seemingly cooperative Harford the day after the Feb. 6 discovery, the arrest affidavit shows. Denver Police Cmdr. Matt Clark previously said that Harford acknowledged to police that he owed money to several crematories in the area and that none would cremate the woman’s body, so he decided to store it in the hearse. The deceased woman’s family told investigators they were given what they believed were the woman’s ashes, which have been turned over to a medical examiner’s office.

When an arrest warrant was issued for Harford on Feb. 12, however, the suspect didn’t turn himself in. By Thursday, police still couldn’t find him and offered a $2,000 award for information leading to his arrest.

Harford was the owner of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton. The business closed in September 2022 due to financial troubles.

DPD is asking any clients of the Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services who did not receive the remains of a loved one or who had concerns with the funeral home to call the Denver Police Major Crimes Division and Denver Police Victim Assistance Unit at 720-913-6610. 

Available court documents did not yet list a defense attorney who could comment on Harford’s behalf.
