ST. LOUIS — Police have released video footage from the deadly 2022 shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) High School. The footage, lasting nine minutes, is a portion of the 24-minute incident.

The video begins with the shooter arriving at the school at 9:02 a.m. At 9:07 a.m., surveillance shows a glass door breaking and a security guard walking toward the noise before retreating. The shooter is seen on the second and third floors, occasionally raising his gun, though it’s unclear when shots are fired due to the lack of audio.

At 9:17 a.m., police say the shooter opened fire in room 323. Two minutes later, he is seen pacing a hallway before entering another room. Police arrived about 90 seconds later, engaging in a shootout that ended with the shooter being killed at 9:26 a.m.

The shooter killed teacher Jean Kuczka and student Alexzandria Bell, and injured seven others. A full 700-page report on the incident will be released in a few weeks.

Police also shared body camera footage from officers entering the school and confronting the shooter. The video shows officers approaching a closed door and exchanging gunfire with someone inside. The video ends with officers entering the room and fatally shooting the suspect.

“The videos released this morning of the CVPA shooting will give rise to a wide variety of emotions for our community. We must continue to remind ourselves – and especially our youth – that it is okay to not be okay, and help is available,” Mayor Tishaura O. Jones posts to X.
