‘Head and hands freezer’ Colorado cold case victim identified
- Amanda Leariel Overstreet has been identified as the victim
- Her head and hands were found in the freezer of a Colorado home
- The property previously belonged to her biological father
(NewsNation) — The severed head and hands found in the freezer of a newly bought Colorado home have been identified as belonging to Amanda Leariel Overstreet.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Friday confirming the identification. Overstreet, approximately 16 at the time of her disappearance in 2005, was not heard from or seen until her remains were found in a Grand Junction home — some 200 miles west of Denver — in January.
The home where Overstreet’s head and hands were found was previously owned by her biological father, according to the sheriff’s office.
Overstreet’s father had offered to leave the freezer for the property’s new owner. The discovery was made upon inspection of the appliance.
Officials said there is no record that Overstreet, a resident of Grand Junction and Harris County, Texas, was ever reported missing.
An investigation into the circumstances of Overstreet’s disappearance and forensic testing are ongoing.
