(NewsNation) — The widow of a Las Vegas-area pastor has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the woman charged with his murder.
Joe Junio, 36, faces charges of murder, attempted murder and child abuse for the Dec. 29, 2023, killing of 46-year-old Nick Davi.
New court documents include a screenshot from a video taken by one of the pastor’s children who was inside the family’s car as their father was shot and killed in front of them. Their mother, Sarah Davi, was shot moments later and survived.
According to the police report obtained by NewsNation affiliate KLAS, Junio and the Davi family were neighbors. Weeks before the shooting, Junio exhibited “escalating threatening behavior” after the family reported her to their homeowners’ association for violations related to chickens and dogs, according to the report.
In response, Junio started harassing and threatening the family. They called the police on her twice in the month before the shooting, according to the report.
According to the report, on the day of the shooting, the Davi family was preparing to leave for the evening when they saw Junio driving past their home and staring at them. Then, Junio parked next to them and rolled down her window. At that point, one of the Davi’s children started recording on their phone.
Junio got out of the car and opened fire toward the family, hitting Nick and Sarah Davi, police said. One of the victims fought over the gun with Junio before she ran away.
The lawsuit does not name the homeowners’ association but alleges the community “provided information to (the) defendant regarding complaints deceased made about (the) defendant,” KLAS reports.
Nick Davi was the leader of Grace Point Church in North Las Vegas. The family wrote on a GoFundMe page, “He touched the lives of countless people in his short time with us. We are all shocked and saddened by this senseless tragedy.”
The lawsuit lists wrong death, among other causes of action, and asks a jury to award damages above $15,000, which is the standard minimum in Nevada civil lawsuits.
Junio remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center on $300,000 bail. She is due back in court in March.
NewsNation reached out to both parties’ attorneys but did not hear back.
