(NewsNation) — Lori Vallow, already convicted of the deaths of her children, Tylee Ryan and JJ Vallow, and conspiracy in the death of her husband’s former wife, Tammy Daybell, is now set to stand trial in Arizona.
The case of Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell drew significant attention. Here is a timeline of what happened.
Lori Vallow meets Chad Daybell
2018: At the time, Vallow was married to Charles Vallow, and the couple was raising her daughter from a previous marriage, Tylee Ryan, and an adopted son, JJ Vallow. Lori Vallow also had an older son, Colby Ryan.
Vallow had been reading Daybell’s fiction books about the end of the world. Daybell was also married and raising five children with his wife. When she met Daybell, the two connected and began doing a religious podcast together.
Lori and Charles Vallow divorce
February 2019: In 2019, Charles Vallow went to police saying his wife had threatened to murder him and believed she was a god preparing for the end of the world. He also filed for divorce from his wife.
Lori Vallow reportedly told her husband she no longer cared about him or JJ and disappeared for 58 days at one point.
Lori Vallow’s friend later recalled that she had begun talking about “zombies” with Daybell, referring to people whose souls were taken over by “dark spirits.” She had also referred to her husband as a “demon.”
Death of Charles Vallow
Jul. 11, 2019: Charles Vallow went to the Chandler, Arizona, house where Lori Vallow was living with Tylee and JJ. He was supposed to pick up JJ for school.
Instead, Lori Vallow’s brother, Alex Cox, shot and killed him. Cox claimed the shooting was self-defense and that he had confronted Charles Vallow about abusing his sister.
Tylee said she witnessed the confrontation but that she and JJ left the house before the shooting.
Tylee Ryan disappearance
Sept. 8, 2019: Alex Cox, Lori Vallow, Tylee and JJ visited Yellowstone National Park, where the last known photo of Tylee, 16, was taken.
Sept. 9, 2019: Cox’s cell phone showed he spent about two hours in Daybell’s yard. That same day, Daybell texted his wife, Tammy, to tell her he had killed a raccoon and buried it in the yard.
Nov. 26, 2019: When conducting a welfare check on JJ, 7, police discover Tylee is also missing.
JJ Vallow disappears
Sep. 22, 2019: Melanie Gibb, a friend of Lori Vallow, was staying at her home and saw JJ asleep. It is the last confirmed sighting of the child.
Sep. 23, 2019: JJ has an unexcused absence, and Vallow tells the school she is now homeschooling him.
That same day, Cox’s cell phone again returned to Daybell’s yard for a much shorter period of time.
Nov. 26, 2019: JJ’s grandparents request a welfare check because they haven’t heard from him in months. Vallow tells them he is with Gibb, but police determine that isn’t true.
Attempted murder of Brandon Boudreaux
Oct. 2, 2019: Brandon Boudreaux, the estranged husband of Lori Vallow’s niece, was shot at while driving in Arizona.
It was later determined that Alex Cox had been near Bourdreaux’s house that day and communicated with Vallow several times.
Tammy Daybell dies
Oct. 19, 2019: Tammy Daybell is found dead in her bed, and the family says she died in her sleep. The family declined an autopsy and said she had appeared to be ill prior to her death and believed she died of natural causes.
Dec. 11, 2019: Authorities exhume Tammy Daybell’s body for an autopsy after becoming suspicious about her death. It would be determined she died of asphyxiation by suffocation.
Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow marry
Nov. 5, 2019: Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow get married in Hawaii without the children present. When they return, police say Chad Daybell told neighbors Vallow did not have any minor children, and Vallow said Tylee had died years earlier.

Search begins for Tylee and JJ
Nov. 27, 2019: Police serve a search warrant on the home and find out Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow are not there.
Dec. 20, 2019: Police announce Tylee and JJ are missing and call Vallow and Daybell “persons of interest.”
Jan. 25, 2020: Police serve Vallow with a warrant demanding she produce Tylee and JJ.
Alex Cox dies
Dec. 12, 2019: Alex Cox dies in Arizona of natural causes.
Investigation and arrest of Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow
Feb. 20, 2020: Lori Vallow is arrested in Hawaii.
May 24, 2021: Daybell and Vallow are indicted on various charges, including first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Tylee and JJ’s bodies are discovered
Jun. 9, 2020: Police search the Daybell property and discover human remains buried in shallow graves. They are later identified as belonging to Tylee and JJ.
Idaho murder trials in the deaths of Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallow and Tammy Daybell
June 2021: Lori Vallow is found incompetent to stand trial, causing a delay.
Apr. 11, 2022: Lori Vallow is found fit to stand trial.
March 2023: The court separates the trials for Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow.
Apr. 3, 2023: Lori Vallow’s trial begins. Prosecutors originally sought the death penalty, but it was removed by the judge at the request of the defense.
May 12, 2023: Vallow is found guilty of all charges for the murders of Tylee Ryan and JJ Vallow. She is also found guilty of conspiracy in the death of Tammy Daybell.
Jul. 31, 2023: Lori Vallow is given three life sentences without parole to be served consecutively.
May 30, 2024: Daybell is found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallow and Tammy Daybell.
Jun. 1, 2024: Chad Daybell is given the death sentence.
Trial for the death of Charles Vallow
Nov. 2023: Lori Vallow is extradited to Arizona to face conspiracy charges in the death of Charles Vallow and the attempted murder of Brandon Boudreaux. The two cases will be tried separately.
Mar. 31, 2025: Jury selection is set to begin in the case against Lori Vallow for conspiracy in the death of Charles Vallow.
