Man tries to rob store with 5-foot snake, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested after Memphis Police say he attempted to rob a gas station with a live snake Monday.
Reginald Cook, 26, is charged with two counts of attempted aggravated robbery. His bond has been set to $4,000.
Around 2 a.m. Monday, Cook walked into Shell located on Elvis Presley Blvd. and made a purchase.
About 30 minutes later, he went back to the store and demanded money from the register. The cashier thought Cook had a weapon because he kept reaching into his clothing.
After the cashier refused to open the register, Cook left.
Police say 35 minutes later, Cook came back with a live, 5-foot snake wrapped around his neck and carried a green backpack. He shouted at the cashier, “Give me the [expletive] money,” while reaching inside the backpack.
The cashier called 911 and pulled out his own firearm. No money was taken and no one was injured.
MPD took Cook into custody and found a railroad spike and rock inside his backpack. They also took possession of the snake.
Cook was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
