BOSTON (WJW) – No charges are being filed after the bodies of four infants were found in the freezer inside a mom’s apartment in South Boston. 

According to an investigative report issued by Suffolk County, Massachusetts District Attorney Kevin Hayden on April 30, the investigation into the four babies found in a freezer in an apartment in South Boston in November 2022 will result in no charges being filed.

“This investigation, which is one of the most complex, unusual and perplexing that this office has ever encountered, is now complete. While we have some answers, there are many elements of this case that will likely never be answered,” Hayden said. “We will never know exactly where or when the four babies found in Alexis Aldamir’s apartment were born.  We will never know if the four babies were born alive, and we will never know exactly what happened to them.  We will never know how Alexis Aldamir concealed her pregnancies, or why she chose to do so.”

On November 17, 2022, a 911 call was made about multiple babies possibly inside a freezer. The caller explained that he and his wife found the bodies while cleaning out his sister’s apartment, according to the report. 

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, the Boston Police Department Homicide Unit and Crime Laboratory and the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner then began a comprehensive investigation. 

According to the report, four babies were found frozen solid, wrapped in tin foil inside shoe boxes. All of the babies were full-term with umbilical cords attached. Two were boys, and two were girls, who still had their placentas attached. 

According to the report, it was concluded that all of the babies were full siblings, determined by DNA testing. 

Investigators found that the apartment was owned and occupied by 69-year-old Alexis Aldamir.

According to the report, Aldamir bought the South Boston apartment in October 1983 but likely started living in the apartment as early as April 1982. Aldamir is now living in a residential healthcare facility.

Through DNA testing, it was concluded that Aldamir is the mother of the four infants. It was also found that the father of all four infants died in 2011.

According to the report, investigators found that Aldamir also gave birth to a baby girl in April of 1982, but the father’s name was not listed on the birth certificate. There were no other records found of Aldamir giving birth.

According to the report, Aldamir had five babies with the same man and gave one up for adoption. The other four were found in Aldamir’s apartment in November 2022.

According to the report, the medical examiner at the time said there was no scientific method to determine how long the babies had been frozen. The autopsy also found no signs of internal or external trauma and no evidence of obvious injuries.

According to the report, “In this case, investigators cannot prove that the babies were ever alive and they have no cause or manner of death,” which are both needed to charge for any homicide.

“Second, the autopsy found no signs of internal or external trauma to the babies and no evidence of obvious injuries,” the report continues. “Third, as the father is now deceased, he cannot be charged with any crimes.”

It was also determined that Aldamir is unable to stand trial, according to the report.

“The information obtained suggests strongly that Aldamir would be unlikely to stand trial,” the report said. “A prosecutor’s office cannot ethically move forward with a case that, in good faith, it believes it cannot bring to trial.”

In conclusion, Hayden said that this investigation will not result in criminal charges.
