(NewsNation) — A search is underway in North Carolina for a suspect whom police say threw a rock at a car, killing a 23-year-old woman. Witnesses said they saw a white Chevrolet pickup truck driving back and forth in the area where the incident happened, with someone riding in the truck bed.
Brittany Ferguson, 23, was driving in Burke County, North Carolina, just northwest of Charlotte last Wednesday evening when a rock suddenly smashed into her windshield, shattering the glass and striking her in the head.
Ferguson’s vehicle veered off the road and collided with a nearby house. She was was pronounced dead at the scene, North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.
“This was a crime rather than someone just driving carelessly,” said the person whose house was hit by Ferguson’s car.
