The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed Kenneth Lee Simpson’s arrest to NewsNation affiliate KTVI Monday afternoon.
Police say Simpson shot two officers at Casey’s gas station Sunday night before fleeing the scene. Early Monday morning, police announced Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith died of his injuries.
Simpson has a criminal history that includes pending cases against him and has been considered on the run from police since April 2022.
Law enforcement surrounded a home across from Casey’s gas station just after midnight Monday after Simpson allegedly barricaded himself inside. Local TV station KMOV reported that SWAT officers administered tear gas Monday and broke through windows in the house after giving verbal commands.
