(NewsNation) — Authorities in Spain have released video that shows David Knezevich buying duct tape and spray paint at a Madrid hardware store just hours before he was seen spray-painting a surveillance camera at his estranged wife’s apartment.
Knezevich is charged with kidnapping in connection with the disappearance of Ana Knezevich Henao, who had been living in Madrid after the couple separated.
She was last seen entering her apartment on February 2 and was reported missing days later after she didn’t show up to meet a friend to travel from Madrid to Barcelona.
Friends and family members became concerned after receiving text messages from Knezevich Henao’s phone that didn’t sound like they were written by the native of Colombia. The Spanish documents released alleged that Knezevich asked a woman to translate a message into Spanish for him.
The couple was going through a contentious divorce after 13 years of marriage. They co-own a computer support service for South Florida businesses. Records show they also own a home and two other Fort Lauderdale properties, one of those currently under foreclosure.
The FBI and Spanish national police are investigating the case. Law enforcement agencies in Knezevich’s native Serbia and Knezevich Henao’s native Colombia have also been involved, according to reports.
Knezevich was arrested last month when he returned to Miami from his native Serbia and is being held without bail. His arraignment was postponed until next week.
