(NewsNation) — Multiple women in recent weeks have posted on social media about being punched in the head by a man they didn’t know in New York City.

One of them, Gizem Sirmali, told “NewsNation Now” she was attacked in the first week she moved to NYC.

Sirmali was walking down the street in the middle of the day, looking at her phone, when she felt a big slap in the face.

Too scared to look behind her, Sirmali kept walking. She figured it was just an “unlucky day” until she saw other people posting about similar incidents.

“I was so shocked,” she said. “I was also angry at who was behind this whole horrible trend.”
