(NewsNation) — In a conversation with a NewsNation viewer, well known TV show host “Dr. Phil” said he’s all for immigration but believes the border is “out of control.”

“I want to be clear. I am very pro-immigration, 100%. But I think it has to be controlled. We need to know who is coming into our country,” Phil McGraw, better known as Dr. Phil, said while taking viewer questions Wednesday with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo.

Dr. Phil visited the southern border in Texas last month and has previously been critical of the Biden administration’s response to the problems there.

Dr. Phil is one of the nation’s most trusted mental health professionals. He has a way of taking on the toughest topics and breaking them down to give common sense advice that resonates with his viewers.

After ending a 21-year run with CBS Media Ventures in May 2023, the psychologist teamed up with with Fort Worth-based Trinity Broadcasting Network to launch a new television network: “Merit Street Media.”

His show, “Dr. Phil Primetime,” is set to premiere April 2 on his new network, which will also feature live news programs, true crime dramas and more. He’s also published a new book: “We’ve Got Issues: How You Can Stand Strong for America’s Soul and Sanity.”
