(NewsNation) — Singer, actor and entrepreneur William “Ray J” Norwood Jr. tells “CUOMO” he has known Sean “Diddy” Combs for decades, with his music empire representing “success and resilience” to an entire generation of artists.

That’s what makes the hip-hop mogul’s myriad criminal allegations and recent federal grand jury indictment so difficult to process, he told NewsNation on Friday.

“We’ve all been around him, at least in my era, and have looked up to him,” he said. “And this situation is super unfortunate, but it’s important to learn a lesson right right now and ensure the next generation understands how to move differently with transparency and integrity.”

Diddy was arrested and charged with federal racketeering and sex trafficking last week, months after Department of Homeland Security agents conducted raids on two of his homes. The producer faces a mounting list of civil lawsuits alleging abuse and sexual assault by multiple victims spanning over 30 years. 

Ray J called the allegations “hurtful” and “confusing” for those who admired Diddy, telling NewsNation he — and many others — had never been privy to the dark side of the mogul’s infamous parties.

“We’ve never seen the stuff that’s being said and the stuff that people are finding out, like, I’ve never been in rooms that people are talking about, and I never knew they existed,” he explained. “And a lot of people in the industry can can agree with me on that sense.”

The “Sexy Can I” singer emphasized unity moving forward, saying he’s working on a plan to help the next generation of entertainers avoid the mistakes and dangers of the industry.

“We just need to use it as a moment to reflect, not to criticize, but find a better way to move forward as leaders, individuals in this culture that we’re in right now.”

Diddy has denied all the allegations and is currently being held in custody after being denied bail twice.
