(NewsNation) — Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he doesn’t think the government should be involved when it comes to censoring social media.

“Social media sites are welcome to have community rules where they can censor stuff. But once the government gets involved, then the First Amendment is implicated,” Kennedy said on “CUOMO” Monday night.

The Supreme Court heard the first of three free speech cases Monday, which could change how the First Amendment is interpreted. The court heard arguments in Murthy v. Missouri, a case that could dictate how much the government can communicate with social media platforms.

Murthy v. Missouri is poised to set groundbreaking legal precedence surrounding how far the government can coerce or influence social media platforms.

Kennedy has yet to announce who he will choose as his running mate. Mediaite reports a top choice may be lawyer and investor Nicole Shanahan.

Mediaite uncovered what they say is the domain registration of kennedyshanahan.com, indicating active fundraising efforts with a live donation page. The domain was registered by Link Lipsitz, a senior advisor to Kennedy, Mediaite reported.

Shanahan is a California attorney and entrepreneur previously married to Google co-founder Sergey Brinn. This move comes after Aaron Rodgers, the NFL quarterback, once under consideration, has been ruled out, citing concerns from campaign donors.
