Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is ‘innocent’: Attorney
- Diddy denied bail Tuesday following indictment
- Combs was arrested Monday in New York City
- Mogul accused of sexual misconduct in civil suits
(NewsNation) — Teny Geragos, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ attorney, is “ready to fight” for his innocence.
Geragos insisted on “CUOMO” that Diddy has committed no crime: “A lifestyle and being present at activities doesn’t mean he committed a crime. … The lifestyle is not criminal. They never once said that these women didn’t consent to what happened.”
Geragos said the “difference” between Diddy and cases involving R. Kelly and Jeffrey Epstein are that “no charges relate to minors.”
“Maybe it’s not what someone here would do in the bedroom,” Geragos said. “Doesn’t mean that what he did was a crime.”
Federal prosecutors Tuesday unsealed an indictment against Combs alleging he abused, threatened and coerced women to fulfill his sexual desires. He pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday afternoon.
A judge denied bail for music mogul Diddy, remanding him to custody pending trial on charges including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
“There has been significant violence, and weapons around. Also coercion of witnesses, even gentle coercion, can be effective,” the judge said. “The type of behavior we’re talking about happens behind closed doors … I cannot release him.”
Diddy’s defense said they will appeal the decision to hold the rapper without bail. The next hearing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET Wednesday at the same courtroom.
