(NewsNation) — Robert Rand, an investigative journalist who has covered the Menendez brothers’ case since 1989 and even penned a book about it, joined “Dan Abrams Live” on Monday to discuss the pair’s future.

Erik and Lyle Menendez have been in prison since 1990 for the murders of their parents, who they claim perpetuated physical, emotional and sexual abuse throughout their childhood.

Vanity Fair reports that Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón is planning on recommending a resentencing for the brothers this week.

The report “is totally untrue. I believe a major news media organization to get a story entirely wrong is terrible in 2024,” Rand said.

He said the last time he spoke to either of the brothers was August, and they shared concern about Netflix’s upcoming show about their story.

“I don’t know any facts, they haven’t said anything to me about what their plans are, but I believe both Eric and Lyle Menendez will continue doing what they are doing now, and that is [being] very productive members of their inmate community,” Rand said.
