Deadpool is coming to Disneyland, minus his R-rated antics

(KTLA/NEXSTAR) — Deadpool is coming to Disneyland’s Avengers Campus — but he won’t be bringing his signature profanity to the park.

To coincide with the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the snarky Marvel Comics antihero will be appearing as a costumed character at Disney California Adventure for a limited time beginning Friday. A costumed Deadpool character had already started making appearances in Disneyland Paris as of Wednesday, too.

“Even Deadpool can’t resist a Disney day!” the official Instagram page of Disney Parks wrote of the event.

The Deadpool character who will be appearing at the Avengers Campus, though, won’t be as prone to violence or four-letter words as his counterparts in the comics or film series, Disneyland says.

“Some of the Super Hero content from Disney’s film studios and on Disney+ is geared towards a more mature audience, however any character who appears in our theme parks will offer an experience and interaction that is appropriate for guests of all ages,” a spokesperson for the park told NewsNation parent company Nexstar.

Many fans of the character had previously doubted whether Disney would ever include Deadpool among its parks’ costumed characters after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox (and inherited the film rights to Deadpool).

“Deadpool absolutely would never happen at Disneyland,” one Reddit user wrote in a recent post discussing the subject. “Deadpool is the antihero, but the comics are violent as hell. No (way) Disney allows that image in the park, even though they got Deadpool through the Marvel acquisition.”

“You couldn’t have a proper Deadpool experience at the parks,” another agreed.

But even a more mellow Deadpool would be a departure for Disneyland, according to Entertainment Weekly. A costumed Deadpool character, the outlet reports, would mark the first time a character from an R-rated film has ever appeared in the park. (All three films in the Deadpool franchise have been rated R; “Deadpool & Wolverine” marks the first R-rated Marvel Studios film.) A representative for Disneyland declined to confirm whether this was indeed the case.

A representative for Disneyland also did not say whether its Deadpool character would be interacting with guests or simply participating in a live show. But if the TikTok videos coming out of Disneyland Paris are any indication, guests at the Anaheim park can expect Deadpool to do a whole lot of family-friendly dancing, if nothing else.
