(KTLA) — A sequel? For a hit movie? Groundbreaking.

After nearly 20 years, everyone’s favorite high-powered editor-in-chief for the fictional Runway Magazine is reportedly set to return to the office for a sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Puck News reports that the original film’s producer, Wendy Finerman, has talked Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt into being a part of a sequel. It’s not known if any other cast members have agreed to sign on.

According to Variety, the sequel will follow Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, as she deals with the decline of traditional magazine publishing. Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, is now an executive with a luxury brand from which Priestly is attempting to grab advertising revenue.

Sources with Disney confirmed to Deadline that the sequel is in early development. Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the script for the 2006 film, has been asked to write the sequel.

While Anne Hathaway’s character Andrea Sachs played a major role in the original film, it’s unclear if she’ll jump on board.

In 2022, she told “The View” that she didn’t think a sequel to the movie would be possible.

“I don’t know if there can be (a sequel),” she said on the talk show. “I just think that movie was in a different era. Now everything’s gone so digital and that movie is centered around the concept of producing a physical thing and it’s just, it’s just very different.”

“The Devil Wears Prada” was a huge hit, earning $326.7 million at the box office. Streep won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy for the performance.

The movie was based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel about a recent college graduate working for a very difficult but fabulous editor of a fashion magazine. Weisberger was a former personal assistant for Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue.
