(KRON) — East Bay punk trio Green Day has been banned from two Las Vegas radio stations after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong trashed the city on stage last week.
While performing at San Francisco’s Oracle Park on Friday, Armstrong made the remarks in reference to the nearby Oakland A’s baseball team leaving for Las Vegas.
“We don’t take s— from people like f—ing John Fisher,” he said, before going on to say, “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst s—hole in America.”
While Armstrong’s remarks about A’s owner John Fisher would likely find sympathetic ears around the Bay Area this week, the remarks about the team’s proposed new home seemingly didn’t go over too well in Vegas.
Las Vegas rock station KOMP 92.3 took to Instagram with a post that read, “KOMP 92.3 has pulled any and all Green Day from our playlist. It’s not us, Billie…it’s you.” The post was accompanied by a picture of the band canceled out and the hashtag #vegas4ever.
Another Vegas station, X107.5 posted on its website, that while “Sin City heard” Armstrong “loud and clear,” “X107.5 is not having it.”
“In response to Armstrong’s inflammatory comments, the station is banning all Green Day music, effective immediately” the station continued.
“Maybe he should take a look at the city and the people involved in that transaction than talking smack about the city of Las Vegas,” said X107.5 deejay Carlota. “And hey, I hate to say it and as much as the Raiders suck but when they were in Oakland, they were worth a billion or two. Now they’re worth six. It was a good business decision and the A’s want some of that and I don’t blame them.”
Armstrong has been a vocal opponent of the A’s proposed move to Vegas in the past, attending a fan-organized reverse boycott and spray painting over an A’s logo at a concert in Toronto last month.
Despite pleas from Armstrong and A’s fans, the Oakland Coliseum hosted its final MLB game on Thursday. The A’s are expected to play home games for the next few years at a minor league stadium in Sacramento while they await the anticipated 2028 opening of their proposed new home in Las Vegas.
