CHICAGO (NewsNation) — In a lengthy Mother’s Day tribute posted to TikTok, Gypsy Rose Blanchard addressed her current feelings about her late biological mother and praised the mother-like figures in her life, including her stepmother Kristy Blanchard and her ex-fiancé’s mom Raina Williams.
“I have a really good group of women in my life to guide me and show me the way,” Gypsy said. “I’m coming into my own as a woman — that takes time, that takes patience.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard released from prison
After serving more than seven years in prison, Gypsy was released from prison three days after Christmas.
Gypsy, now 32, pleaded guilty in 2016 to the second-degree murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Gypsy’s then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, is serving life in prison for stabbing Dee Dee to death in 2015.
Some experts think Gypsy, who attorneys say was isolated and abused by Dee Dee for years, may have been a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
Gypsy was forced to use a wheelchair and undergo unnecessary medical procedures, her attorneys said. After Dee Dee’s murder, Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was released early.
‘I think the best of her’
But despite the trauma Gypsy claims to have gone through, she addressed her current feelings about her mother in the video.
“It does not go without notice that my own biological mother is not here to celebrate Mother’s Day,” Gypsy said in the video.
She continued, “What I choose to feel on Mother’s Day regarding my own mother is that I think the best of her.”
Gypsy said that she thinks about the good times her mother and her shared together, not what Dee Dee allegedly did to Gypsy.
“Was she a good mom? No. Was she the best mom in the world? No. But she was still my mom. So, what I choose to feel about her … that’s mine to feel,” Gypsy said.
The 32-year-old said she is choosing to remember her mother for the good that was in her heart. Gypsy said she has been working on forgiveness toward her for years.
Gypsy’s mother-like figures
Once she wrapped up the brief monologue about Dee Dee, Gypsy gave a shout-out to three women in her life: Stepmother Kristy Blanchard, ex-fiancé Ken Urker’s mom Raina Williams and her “fake aunt” Vicky.
Gypsy said that all three women have accepted her for who she is and the choices she made, regardless if they disagree with her.
“They’re always going to be there to have my back,” she said. “They are really, really good mothers, and I hope that when I have kids someday, that I can take a lot from them and Vicky and Kristy and Raina show me the right path of being a mom.”
“Thank you for loving me at a time when I felt unlovable,” Gypsy choked back tears. “And accepting me no matter what.”
