(NewsNation) — Jennifer Lopez is dropping bombs in her new documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.”

Lopez, now happily married to Ben Affleck, says in the doc: “There were people in my life who said ‘I love you’ and then didn’t do things that were kind of in line with the word love. … You have to hit rock bottom where you’re in situations so uncomfortable and so painful that you finally go, ‘I don’t want this anymore.’ … Being thrown around and manhandled like that is not fun. I was never in a relationship where I got beat up, thank God, but I’ve definitely been manhandled and a couple of other unsavory things … rough … disrespectful.”

Those in the know tell me she was talking specifically about one man: her former lover Sean “Puffy” Combs.

Combs recently settled a lawsuit brought by his former girlfriend and protegee, Cassie, in which she accused him of rape, assault and sex trafficking. He has also been hit with several other lawsuits against him including one in which four other women accused him of sexual abuse and most recently, a male producer on his most recent album also accused him of sexual assault.

During her relationship with Combs, Lopez was put in several untenable situations, including her 1999 arrest after Combs allegedly fired a gun in a club. According to reports at the time, the two had been partying at Club New York in Midtown Manhattan, when Combs “accidentally” spilled a drink onto Matthew “Scar” Allen. A melee ensued, and Combs was charged with gun possession after money was flung around and shots were fired in the air. Lopez and Combs were arrested after fleeing in a Lincoln Navigator, and a gun was found in the car. Lopez spent up to 14 hours in jail before charges against her were dropped. Combs was eventually acquitted — but not before he and Lopez broke up.

“He was very controlling,” one source said. “He would constantly put her in uncomfortable situations — he always had guns and money in the car. This is a good girl from the Bronx who never got into trouble or was wild.”

The source also said, “He never beat on her or raped her (as Cassie claimed in her lawsuit) but she had (her longtime manager) Benny Medina to protect her. Benny would have killed Puffy if he’d laid a finger on J.Lo … but still (Puffy) was controlling and demanding.”

Another source who knew the couple at the time said, “He definitely manhandled her, but it’s a little low to bring this all up now. It’s kicking a man when he’s down.”

The two eventually broke up in 2001. A representative for Lopez declined to comment.
