(NewsNation) — NewsNation anchor Nichole Berlie announced on Friday, amid Breast Cancer Awareness Month, that she is officially cancer-free after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

“One year ago today, Oct 4. of last year, I was one of those women under the age of 50 to be diagnosed,” Berlie said in her emotional announcement during Friday’s broadcast of her show “NewsNation Now.

“Mine started with no symptoms; I had no signs. So please hear this: My mammogram was fine. I was given the all-clear,” she said. “And it’s because there was no cancer. The cancer was only detected through a recommended ultrasound because I have dense breast tissue. And another twist, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, but doctors never actually found any cancer in either breast. It was found in one lymph node in my armpit.”

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Berlie has a request for viewers.

“I’ve always been healthy, I’ve always been active and I still got cancer. So it can happen to anyone. Please do not put off going to the doctor.”

Berlie said that while she still has years of medication and screenings ahead, she’s relieved.

“I am here and I am thankful,” she said.
