(NewsNation) — Actress Olivia Munn said she underwent a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.
The 43-year-old actress was diagnosed after her OB-GYN calculated her breast cancer risk score and ordered a breast MRI. The results from the MRI led to an ultrasound and biopsy, which ultimately resulted in a diagnosis.
Munn said her cancer wouldn’t have been caught for another year if her doctor hadn’t run the calculations because she had a normal mammogram two months prior and tested negative for breast cancer genes.
She was diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer known as Luminal B, which is fast-moving. Munn opted for a double mastectomy to treat her cancer.
Munn told her story on Instagram, saying she had undergone four surgeries in the previous 10 months to treat her cancer.
She also urged her followers to speak to their doctors about calculating their risk scores to be proactive about their health.
