(NewsNation) — The iconic NBC sitcom, “The Office,” is rumored to be rebooted as the show runner is assembling a writer’s room.

The speculation about a revival gained momentum six months ago when industry journalist Matthew Belloni reported in Puck that showrunner Greg Daniels was gearing up for a “The Office” reboot.

Melora Hardin, best known for her role as Jan Levinson on the show expressed enthusiasm for a potential reboot, in an interview with The US Sun. The 56-year-old actress declared her readiness to participate, stating, “I would certainly show up. I think a lot of us would.”

Hardin revealed that she had already discussed potential storylines with Daniels for her character if a reboot or film materializes. “I actually have talked to Greg about some ideas. I thought this would be funny if Jan was like a self-help guru because she was so kind of flawed,” she shared.

Meanwhile, Daniels, who previously mused about a revival with a new cast, is assembling a writers’ room to explore fresh takes on the beloved series. Sources have informed The Hollywood Reporter that Universal Television, the original show’s producer, is actively working on this project, but there is no confirmed network or platform attached yet.

“The Office,” which originally aired from 2005 to 2013 on NBC, remains popular even after its Netflix run. NBCUniversal paid $500 million to bring the show exclusively to Peacock, hoping to make it a tentpole for the streaming service.

As one of Netflix’s most-watched titles, the streamer took a hit when the rights reverted to Peacock, according to Screen Rant.

The show’s potential expansion is drawing closer to reality, with Daniels initiating the development of a follow-up series. This new venture is expected to introduce new characters in a different office setting while existing within the same universe as the Scranton-based Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.

While a full-blown reunion with the original cast seems unlikely, individual cast members may make appearances in the new franchise series. B.J. Novak, a writer and actor from the original series, remarked in a previous interview with Deadline, “Definitely, you wouldn’t get everyone back together, that ship has sailed.”

Hardin hinted at the possibility of a film, explaining, “I would love to make a film because then it would just be quick, and we would do it. I think we could bring everybody back for that.”

Cast members, including Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and Rainn Wilson, have expressed a desire to return for a reboot. Despite her busy schedule as a co-creator on multiple TV shows, Mindy Kaling has also confirmed her interest in returning, according to Screen Rant.
