CHICAGO — Chicago Fire personnel recognized several people Thursday for helping save an infant’s life outside Wrigley Field, including a CPR instructor who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

It happened last month just as the family was leaving a Cubs game.

The Chicago Fire Department praised bystander Justin Mis, who performed CPR on the infant, who was in cardiac arrest until paramedics arrived. Mis is a trauma coordinator at Cook County Hospital and a CPR instructor at Lurie Children’s Hospital.

The hospital presented its Community Hero Award to Mis and EMTs from Chicago Fire Ambulance Six, who were able to revive baby Emma just before reaching the hospital. The awards come from Project Adam, a nationwide nonprofit that educates and prepares people to prevent sudden cardiac arrest.

The family thanked first responders and Mis for their life-saving efforts.

“Bystander CPR does save lives,” said Mary Otting with Lurie Children’s Hospital.

The baby has since made a full recovery.
