Cards from 9 more states needed for woman’s 103rd birthday
BELINGTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Pearl, a resident at Tygart Valley Health & Rehabilitation in Barbour County, turns 103 in less than two weeks, and so far, people have sent her birthday cards from 41 states and at least three countries.
The West Virginia care facility set a goal back in January to celebrate Pearl’s life by getting cards from all 50 states. As of Jan. 30, Pearl had received 414 cards, including from England and Israel.
States that still hadn’t sent cards as of Tuesday were Montana, Georgia, Oregon, Nevada, Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Originally, workers at the facility planned to give Pearl a bundle of all the cards on her birthday, Feb. 13, but since she has received so many, they will be allowing her to open a few cards a day so she has time to appreciate all of them by her birthday.
Anyone who wants to send a card can use the following address:
Mrs. Pearl
216 Samaritan Circle
Belington, WV 26350
Pearl was born and raised in Randolph County, West Virginia but has also lived in Baltimore, Akron, and Cleveland. In case you want to personalize her card, her favorite color is purple, her favorite treat is chocolate, her favorite actors are Cary Grant and Clark Gable, and her favorite music is big band, especially Jimmy Dorsey.
