GODDARD, Kan. (KSNW) – One man’s trash is another man’s treasure or, in this case, plastic bags.

The Lions Club in Goddard is collecting them and turning them into benches. The project started four years ago when they partnered with Trex. It turns 1,000 pounds of plastic bags into a bench. For perspective, it takes over 81,000 bags per bench.

The Lions Club’s mission is environmental stewardship, and members say collecting plastic is a big part of that.

“I think it’s important in Goddard to have an outlet for recycling clean, stretchy plastic that can be turned into good for our community,” said Nicole Jude, a Lion’s Club member.

Drop-off locations for the plastic bags include the Goddard Public Library and Pro Kansas Recycling.
