LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — They are mechanics, pilots, and rescue workers you might not often associate with Las Vegas police activity, but when a Metro canine was stabbed multiple times, they were the only ones who could save the dog’s life.

Karen Marben, LVMPD Foundation executive director, touted the work of the law enforcement employees during the seventh annual Hidden Heroes Black and White Gala this year hosted at the KAOS Club inside The Palms Resort.

“We just want to honor one group that works behind the scenes at Metro,” Marben said. “Who do really important tasks but might not be seen in the public very often.”

A video showcased the efforts by attendees to save the life of Enzo, the Metro canine involved in a stabbing last week, speakers acknowledged their efforts which sometimes go unnoticed.

“Air support really came to the rescue, literally, to save Enzo during his dire medical situation,” Marben said. “Enzo’s handler, Remi, will actually be in the audience tonight to celebrate them.”

The work of the two units, air support and search and rescue, recognized their responsibilities to conduct operations such as: technical mountain rescue, dive search and recover, swift water rescue and helicopter operations.

A silent auction was also held during the event by the LVMPD Foundation which is raising funds to support department training and community engagement activities for law enforcement employees.
