Louisiana man determined to make a difference after surviving stroke
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)-When Charles Phillips, a Shreveport photographer, didn’t feel well, he drove himself to the hospital; they checked him out and found nothing. He went home. When he woke up the next day, something was very wrong. His wife called 911. They later found out Charles was having a stroke.
He spent months in the hospital, and when he returned home, he wanted to make a difference in the community that he was a big part of before his stroke.
He had started a Facebook group called Do Good 365 Day of Goodness; however, it never really took off. He was discouraged and stopped posting on it, but now he had plenty of time to devote to the group as he continued his recovery at home.
As time passed, engagement improved within the Facebook group. People were responding positively.
Each day, he places an activity that can be easily completed. The activities are all designed to touch other people’s lives.
Charles said, “Every morning, I give you a task to do. It’s not going to be a task to where it’s going to take up a lot of your time and a lot of your day, it’s just meant to impact somebody so one of the tasks might be as simple as holding the door open for somebody, let somebody skip you in line at the grocery store, just things like that we can do to show random acts of kindness.”
Group member Shay Linnear says she loves the way it makes her feel to do something good for another person.
“It makes my heart happy. I’m a giving person and just to make somebody else smile or make somebody else day it makes my day. when I’m out making other people that bless me it’s just a feeling you can’t explain that makes me so happy,” Linnear said.
