MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An event was held this weekend to help celebrate the unique relationship between fathers and their children.

“Gameday with Dad” was hosted by the Fatherhood support group, AFIRM.

AFIRM is an acronym for “A Father’s Involvement Really Matters.”

Organizers say the program’s aim is to develop healthy parenting and co-parenting to strengthen a father and child’s bond.

“We have mothers depending on fathers, children depending on fathers, but who do our fathers depend on,” April Wade said. “This program gives them that backbone that they need. It gives them that stepping stone they need. It gives them the opportunity that they need (so) that they can continue to be their best selves and that’s what our program is about.”
