CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) — With winter just around the corner, skiers are gearing up to return to the slopes but with the coronavirus pandemic still on the rise, they will find resorts much more sparse.

At Homewood Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe, CA ticket sales are being limited to about 25% of capacity, resulting in the season ticket allotment already selling out. The resort is also closing its ticket windows with the daily tickets sold only online and food, with an app rather than going to the lodge. They are also limiting lift ticket sales every single day of the season to make ensure social distancing. Skiers are encouraged to make their car their base lodge since the lodge itself will have very limited capacity.

In Vermont, ski resorts are preparing to kick off the winter season, welcoming back skiers and riders for the first time since March.

Killington Resort will be the first to open its lifts – season pass holders can make their first runs of the season at 9 am on Friday, and trails open to the general public on Monday.
