US coronavirus death toll to hit 200K
WASHINGTON (NewsNation Now) — The United States’ coronavirus death toll is approaching 200,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The U.S. is expected to surpass the grim milestone in the coming days, though many medical experts including National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci have said that the official tally is likely higher.
As of Sunday morning, Johns Hopkins University is reporting 199,268 coronavirus-related deaths in the United States, the highest toll from the virus compared to any other country. Brazil and India are trailing the U.S., with 136,532 and 86,752 deaths respectively.
The U.S., India and Brazil also lead the global tally of COVID-19 cases.
There have been more than 6.7 million cases reported in the U.S., according to Johns Hopkins data. India has reported more than 5.4 million, and Brazil is tallying more than 4.5 million, as of Sunday morning.
