(WJET/WFXP) — Planet Fitness announced the return of one of their popular summer program to help teens stay in shape during their time away from school.

From June 1 to August 31, teens aged 14-19 will be able to work out for free at any of the fitness franchise’s 2,500-plus locations in the U.S. and Canada free of charge after signing up as part of their High School Summer Pass.

Teens who sign up for the program will get free access to free fitness training from in-club certified fitness trainers, free workouts designed specifically for high schoolers in their app and workout plans.

The fitness franchise said they’ve more than $200 million in waived membership dues as part of the program saying it’s part of an effort to help teens prioritize their mental and physical health during a time when most extracurricular activities are on pause.

“As the leader in fitness with locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, Planet Fitness is proud to continue to invest in today’s youth by providing free access to fitness during a critical time in their lives,” said Craig Benson, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Planet Fitness.

Planet Fitness cited research from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics that showed 9 out of 10 teens agree physical activity improves their overall mental health.

They also cited another JAMA study determining physical fitness helps protect kids and adolescents against developing depression, anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Sign-ups for the program have already opened on the Planet Fitness website and at fitness centers with anyone under the age of 18 required to have a parent or guardian present to sign up.
