(NewsNation) — The arraignment of David Knezevich has been postponed for a week after his lawyer told the court she had not yet been paid.

Knezevich is facing charges in connection with the disappearance of his estranged wife, Ana Knezevich Henao, who had been living in Madrid after the couple separated.

Per reports, Knezevich leveraged the couple’s real estate assets after their separation.

“Looks like to me he was doing bunch of trickery far in advance of this crime,” NewsNation law & justice contributor Jennifer Coffindaffer said Monday night on “CUOMO.” “It shows me pre-meditation. That he was looking to get out of this completely and make sure that he had all the money.”

Disappearance of Ana Knezevich Henao

Knezevich Henao was reported missing after her friends received strange text messages from her number and she failed to show up for a planned trip to Barcelona. She had traveled to Madrid as she and Knezevich went through a contentious divorce. Around the same time, Knezevich traveled to Serbia.

The Knezeviches, who sometimes spell their surname “Knezevic,” have been married for 13 years. They own EOX Technology Solutions Inc., which does computer support for South Florida businesses. Records show they also own a home and two other Fort Lauderdale properties, one of those currently under foreclosure.

Knezevich Henao’s brother, Juan Henao, called the couple’s divorce “nasty” in an interview with a Fort Lauderdale detective, a report shows. He told police Knezevich was angry that they would be dividing a substantial amount of money. Ana is a naturalized American from Colombia.

The case against David Knezevich

According to prosecutors, Knezevich rented a car in Serbia and traveled to Madrid around the time Knezevich Henao disappeared. Investigators say there is evidence he used a stolen license plate on the car, which was seen on video in Madrid.

Court documents show the investigators saw footage of a man fitting Knezevich’s description spray painting the security cameras around Knezevich Henao’s apartment. Additional evidence showed him buying the same brand of spray paint and duct tape earlier, the filing said.

In the same filing, investigators also said Knezevich asked a woman to translate a message into Spanish for him. That message was the same one Knezevich Henao’s friends received, which they said was out of character. It said she had met a man and was going to see him, but she would not have a cell phone signal.

Knezevich was arrested in Miami when he returned to the U.S. He was held without bail after being deemed a flight risk.

Knezevich Henao has not been located.
