(NewsNation) — Nancy Ng’s family is pleading for answers after the 29-year-old teacher’s aide disappeared while on a yoga retreat in Guatemala. After she disappeared, members of the group allegedly pushed up plans to depart the country, leaving her relatives seeking closure.
Guatemalan authorities believe Ng drowned in a local lake, but her family still wants more answers as to what happened the day Ng disappeared.
Here’s what is known about the case:
Oct. 14: Ng arrives in Guatemala
Ng arrives in Guatemala, taking part in a “Be the Change” yoga retreat. She’d gone on the same retreat a year before and was looking forward to peace and relaxation.
Oct. 19: Kayaking and disappearance
The group went to Lake Atitlán to go kayaking. According to a witness statement by Christina Blazek given nearly a month after the incident through a lawyer, Ng and another attendee had separated from the group and were kayaking separately.
Blazek said Ng had jumped out of her kayak to go swimming, and by the time she’d finished wrangling the empty boat, Ng had vanished.
Ng is reported missing four hours after that incident.
Oct. 20: Group leaves Guatemala
Blazek and the rest of the yoga group leave Guatemala. They allegedly pushed up their planned travel dates, leaving within eight to 12 hours of Ng’s disappearance. However, other reports indicated they left as planned.
Oct. 21: First air search
The first air search of the lake is conducted. There is no sign of Ng.
Oct. 25: Witness outreach
The Ng family reached out to Blazek, who was with Ng on that day, but received no response.
Oct. 31: Witness outreach
The Ng family tried again to contact Blazek for more information about what happened the day Ng vanished. Once again, it got no response.
Nov. 13: Witness named
An investigator hired by the Ng family put out a press release naming Blazek and questioning her silence.
Nov. 14: Witness speaks
Christina Blazek issues a statement through her attorney describing the events of the day.
