(NewsNation) — Wisconsin law enforcement has identified skeletal remains found in the Two Rivers area as Elijah Vue.
A local deer hunter discovered the remains on private property and called authorities Sept. 7.
“This is not the outcome we hoped for. The family’s devastated, we’re devastated, the community is devastated,” a Two Rivers police department spokesperson said during a Friday news conference. “I never met Elijah, but I watched that 3-year-old boy bring out the best in our community.”
The Amber Alert for his disappearance has been canceled.
Vue disappeared in northeastern Wisconsin in February. He was last believed to be at the house of Jesse Vang in Two Rivers. Vang was dating Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur.
Vang was watching Vue when he went missing, with Baur confirming the toddler had been with him for about a week for “discipline.” Since then, both Baur and Vang have been arrested and charged with child neglect.
In March, Vue’s blanket was found and a “vehicle of interest” was seized.
Anyone with information on Vue is urged to call the Two Rivers Police tip line at 844-267-6648 or contact the Manitowoc County Crime Stoppers.
