(NewsNation) — National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd commended measures within the Senate’s bipartisan border bill, adding that he’d want former President Donald Trump to build on it if he were again elected to office.

The immigration bill has been met with opposition by some Republicans and Democrats. On Tuesday, President Joe Biden accused Trump of trying to block the deal’s success, saying that if it fails, Trump is to blame.

Judd, a Trump supporter, wants reform sooner rather than later and said Trump could polish the bill during a hypothetical second term in the White House.

“This border security bill doesn’t end everything,” Judd said. “But if Trump came into office, he could then give us the rest of what we need, and that’s the reason why we support him because we know that he is going to do what’s necessary to absolutely secure the border (and) protect the American people.”

The package would streamline the adjudication of asylum claims and allow the president to shut down the border if daily crossings average more than 4,000, NewsNation partner The Hill reported. The package calls for 100 additional immigration judges, 4,300 new asylum officers and added border staff.

The bill, however, doesn’t appear likely to move forward.

“It’s very disappointing that we’re not going to get any help, and everything is going to remain status quo,” Judd said.
