(NewsNation) — The Department of Justice has responded to a stay issued by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts that temporarily halts the expiration of Title 42.

According to Tuesday’s filing, the Department of Justice opposes the controversial border policy but asks to give lawmakers more time to come to a different resolution before ending it.

With the uncertainty of Title 42 in mind, San Luis, Arizona, has declared a local state of emergency due to the border crisis overwhelming their resources.

In the video above, city officials speak to NewsNation host Leland Vittert about the obstacles they are facing right now.
