Geraldo Rivera endorses Harris, says Trump ‘unfit’
- 54 percent of Americans back mass deportation of immigrants
- Correspondent slams Trump's 'racist' rhetoric on immigration
- Rivera: 'If you are a Republican, Trump has made a liar of you'
(NewsNation) — NewsNation correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera said Monday that he’s endorsing Kamala Harris for president and believes Donald Trump is unfit for the White House.
“His destruction of Roe v. Wade and the protection for abortion, the immigration reform bill that he did not embrace; rather, he has chosen to become an absolute racist when speaking of undocumented immigrants, comparing them to animals. It’s horrifying,” Rivera said on NewsNation’s “On Balance.”
In a post on X, Rivera noted that he stood by Trump’s said during his first term in office, and that he was “deeply suspicious” of the “constant efforts to undermine his administration.”
Rivera said his view of Trump began to shift when the former president “embarked on an increasingly menacing campaign to discredit the 2020 election.”
“If you are a Republican, Donald Trump has made a liar of you. He has coaxed and intimidated tens of millions into pretending he was reelected in 2020, and that the election was stolen,” Rivera said on X.
In Rivera’s endorsement for Harris, he acknowledged that more than half of all Americans, including a quarter of Democrats, support the mass deportation of immigrants who are living in the country illegally, which was cited by a Scripps News/Ipsos survey.
However, when it comes to rhetoric on illegal immigration, Rivera believes Trump and J.D. Vance are “constantly demonizing” undocumented immigrants and falsely attributing to them a crime wave that he says does not exist.
