WASHINGTON (NewsNation Now) — President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will participate in competing town halls Thursday night.

The candidates’ televised events will both begin at 8 p.m. ET, airing on different networks.

Trump will travel to Miami for an NBC News town hall, moderated by “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie. Biden will participate in ABC News’ town hall in Philadelphia, moderated by Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.

Thursday night was originally scheduled as the second presidential debate, which was officially called off after the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates shifted the format from in-person to virtual. The changes were due in part to Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis, the commission said.

The president then backed out of the virtual debate, and his campaign called on the commission to reverse course and return to the in-person structure. The Biden campaign suggested pushing back the debate a week.

The third presidential debate, scheduled for Oct. 22 in Nashville, Tennessee, is still on.

Pres. Trump will also make a campaign stop in North Carolina Thursday afternoon, while Biden plans to fundraise at a virtual event.

Vice President Mike Pence will hold a rally in Miami Thursday at around 1 p.m. ET. Biden’s running mate Sen. Kamala Harris will travel to North Carolina Thursday afternoon for the state’s first day of in-person early voting.
