Presidential candidates look to move the economy forward, discuss taxes during debate
CLEVELAND (NewsNation Now) — The nation’s unemployment rate was 8.4% in August, down from 14.7% in April amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a topic many Americans are grappling with as several of the coronavirus-related economic stimulus and economic recovery plans have run out.
President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden discussed their plans to regrow the economy in Tuesday’s debate.
Following a weekend report from The New York Times, President Donald Trump’s tax records were also discussed Tuesday.
This came after the report found President Donald Trump paid no federal income taxes in 10 of the past 15 years.
Trump, who has guarded his tax filings and is the only president in modern times not to make them public, paid $750 in taxes to the federal government the year he was elected, 2016, and $750 again his first year in office, according to the report.
NewsNation was not able to immediately independently confirm the details of The New York Times report.
