MADISON (NewsNation Now) — Democratic nominee Joe Biden won the presidential race in Wisconsin, along with its 10 electoral votes, according to the Associated Press. Biden spoke in Delaware following the badger state win.

“Here, the people rule,” Biden said. “Power flows from the people. It’s their will that determines who will be the president of the United States.”

Biden assured the public that his remarks don’t equate to a nationwide victory.

“It’s clear that we’re winning enough states to reach 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. I’m not here to say we’ve won, but I am here to report that when the count is finished we believe we will be the winners.”

President Donald Trump and Biden were locked in a tight race in Wisconsin as vote-counting stretched into Wednesday. Before AP called the race for Biden, Trump’s campaign requested a recount in the state.

When asked about a possible recount in Wisconsin, Secretary of State Megan Wolfe said Wednesday that the state’s voting process is “phenomenal” and that “there was a paper trail” in case of a potential recount.

Wisconsin had a recount of the vote in the 2016 presidential election.

Biden was hoping to reclaim the state from Trump after the president won it by less than 23,000 votes in 2016. Trump’s victory marked the first time a Republican had captured the state since Ronald Reagan in 1984. Coupled with his wins in the other “blue wall” states of Michigan and Pennsylvania, Wisconsin propelled him to the White House.

Trump held a rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Monday, the night before Election Day. Biden most recently visited Milwaukee on Friday, Oct. 30.

From the mid-1940s through 1984, the state voted Republican a majority of the time. However the state turned blue when Democrats won seven elections from 1988 through 2012.
