SALT LAKE CITY (NewsNation Now) — Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic opponent Sen. Kamala Harris were asked about race in America and the unrest that followed.

Moderator Susan Page asked both candidates if justice was served in the Breonna Taylor case.

Harris said she doesn’t believe justice was served in the case and condemned any form of violence.

“It brings me to the 8 minutes and 46 seconds under which an American man was tortured and killed under the knee of an armed uniformed people officer,” said Harris, referencing George Floyd. “People around the country of every race, every age and every gender, perfect strangers to each other, marched shoulder to shoulder, arm in arm. Fighting to finally achieve the idea of equal justice under law.”

Harris also called for policing reform saying “bad cops are bad for good cops.”

Pence said he believes justice was served in the Taylor case, but condemned the rioting.

“I trust our justice system, a grand jury that refused the evidence. It really is remarkable as a former prosecutor you would assume that an empaneled grand jury looking at all the evidence got it all wrong but you’re entitled to your opinion senator,” said Pence. “With regard to George Floyd, there is no excuse to what to happened to George Floyd. Justice will be served, but there is also no excuse for the rioting and looting that followed.”
