Atlanta Journal-Constitution joins call for Biden to quit the race
- AJC says Biden should withdraw ‘for the good of the nation’
- The paper joins New York Times in calling on Biden to end his reelection bid
- Biden says the stakes are too high for him to quit
(NewsNation) — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has become the second major newspaper in the U.S. to call on President Joe Biden to end his reelection campaign.
“The unfortunate truth is that Biden should withdraw from the race, for the good of the nation he has served so admirably for half a century,” said the AJC’s editorial board.
On Friday, The New York Times called on Biden to leave the race, calling it “the greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform.”
Biden acknowledged his poor debate performance at a Friday rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, but also said he’s not quitting.
“Folks, I don’t walk as easy as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know. I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done,” Biden said.
Republicans have pounced on Biden’s debate performance. North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis called on the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and install Vice President Kamala Harris as Acting President under Section Four of the amendment.
