WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign raised an unprecedented $10 million in the 24 hours after his fiery State of the Union address.
The grassroots fundraising boom broke one-hour online fundraising records three hours in a row during the president’s annual message and marked the fourth consecutive record-breaking month for Team Biden-Harris, according to the campaign.
“Ten million dollars in 24 hours. To quote the boss, that’s a BFD,” Julie Chávez Rodriguez, Biden campaign manager, said in a statement. “The president’s State of the Union address reminded so many of our supporters who is fighting for them, and the stakes of his election for our freedom, our rights, and our democracy.”
“We send our condolences to the other guy,” Chávez added, in reference to the presumptive Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump. “Turns out attacking women’s rights, cutting taxes for the rich, and attacking American democracy isn’t exactly a winning message.”
Biden used the State of the Union address to take numerous swipes at his predecessor – though, never once mentioning Trump by name – for depicting “resentment, revenge and retribution.”
At the end of January, Biden’s re-election campaign had nearly $56 million cash on hand, the most recent federal filings show. In contrast, Trump’s campaign had $30.5 million available during the same time period.
The Biden operation now aims to capitalize on the fundraising momentum by launching a $30 million, six-week television and digital ad blitz in battleground states. The first ad released Saturday aimed to dovetail the president’s age with his capability to get things done.
“Look, I’m not a young guy. That’s no secret,” Biden quips, adding: “But here’s the deal: I understand how to get things done for the American people.” The president then touts his administration’s record on health, the economy, infrastructure and climate change, before accusing Trump of taking away “the freedom of women to choose.”
The president, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will be fanning out across the country in March to host political events in what is dubbed a “Month of Action” by the campaign to kick off the general election.
