(NewsNation) — Ahead of former President Donald Trump being projected to win the New Hampshire primary, NewsNation host Chris Cuomo said he had multiple Trump supporters tell him “not to undermine the story of crossover Democrats.”
“I’ve had the fifth person who is supportive of the former president telling me not to undermine the story of crossover Democrats. Look, I’m just looking at the numbers. OK, every storyline’s as good as any other for us. You know, we’re just trying to drive what matters here,” Cuomo said.
Trump recently falsely claimed Democrats can vote in New Hampshire’s GOP primary.
“RIDICULOUS THAT DEMOCRATS AND INDEPENDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY,” Trump posted on social media Tuesday.
In New Hampshire, independents can participate in either the Republican or Democratic primaries, but a voter registered as a Democrat cannot vote in the GOP primary. The deadline for people to switch their party affiliation was in October 2023.
Trump’s post comes as his GOP rival Nikki Haley has tried to court independent voters.
Trump is projected to win the New Hampshire primary, prevailing over the former South Carolina governor, who has vowed to stay in the race.
