(NewsNation) — Vice President Kamala Harris may have had to wait a few minutes for an endorsement from President Joe Biden, but when it came, it included tremendous praise.

In Biden’s initial statement on X, the former Twitter, he did not endorse any candidate, but nearly a half-hour after that post, Harris was endorsed in a separate tweet.

“I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” Biden wrote. “Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

To win the nomination, a candidate must secure 1,986 delegates. As of 10 p.m. Sunday, 531 delegates had already pledged to Harris.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is among the Democrats to throw his support behind Harris, posting his decision to X on Monday.

“She’s incredibly tough & smart, w/ the compassion and empathy to be a phenomenal president. She’ll bring our country together and move us past the anger politics we’ve seen in recent years,” Beshear wrote.

But some major names in the Democratic Party, including former President Barack Obama, have not endorsed her yet.

“Just like he did in 2020 once Joe Biden earned the nomination, President Obama believes he will be uniquely positioned to help unite the party once we have a nominee, lift-up that candidate, and do everything he can to get that candidate elected in November,” a person familiar with Obama’s thinking told NewsNation.
